Orchard and fruit trees

We have over 100 fruit trees growing at the moment which include 30 different types of Apple, 5 different types of Pear, 3 types of Cherry, 4 types of Plum, 2 types of Medlar, 2 types of Quince, 2 types of Fig, and also Mulberry, Nectarine, Kiwi, Pomegranate and Greengage.

Many of our fruits are old varieties dating from before 1900.

 

There are also several varieties of Crab Apple to help with the important job of cross pollination.

We also grow soft fruits including Blueberry, Blackberry, White Currant, Red Currant,Raspberry, Strawberry, Rhubarb,.

Several types of herbs are also grown including Mint, Parsley, Myrtle, Rosemary and Sage.

Pickles and preserves made from our fruits and herbs are often for sale at some of our fundraising events.

In the orchards are other types of trees including Kent Cob Hazel, Turkish Hazel, Sweet Chestnut, Oak, Ash, Scots Pine, Blackthorn and many hedging trees.

Please do not remove fruits, cones, leaves or blossoms from our trees and plants. The same applies to trees in the main Heathfield Gardens outside the Centre.
